HERJANGEN

Narvik
Nordland, Norge

Stone Age rock carving, partly painted.

The main site of the Herjangen rock carving is located on a slope facing the fjord, behind the sports field. The upper part of the rock outcrop is dominated by three large elks. In front of the leftmost elk, there are two small net figures. On the lower part of the rock, there is a possible pair of a fish and a seal (?), as well as two square-like shapes with rounded corners that are bisected by a vertical line.

Herjangen 2 is located 300 metres southwest of the main site. By the roadside, there is a small rock outcrop which, in addition to modern traces, features one small depiction of a deer.

Herjangenin pääkenttä sijaitsee vuonolle päin viettävässä rinteessä, urheilukentän takana. Kalliopaljastuman yläosaa hallitsee kolme suurikokoista hirveä. Näistä vasemmanpuoleisen edessä on kaksi pientä verkkokuviota. Kallion alaosassa on mahdollinen kalan ja hylkeen (?) pari sekä kaksi pyöreäkulmaista, neliömistä, pystyviivan halkaisemaa muotoa.

Herjangen 2 sijaitsee 300 metriä lounaaseen pääkentältä. Tien reunalla on pieni kalliopaljastuma, jossa on nykyaikaisten jälkien lisäksi yksi pieni peuraa esittävä kuva.
